Melvin “Mel” Roy Armour
1948 ~ 2017
It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected passing of Melvin “Mel” Roy Armour of Coaldale, on May 9, 2017, at the age of 69 years.
Mel was born February 6, 1948 in Calgary, Alberta.
An avid outdoorsman, Mel’s interests were vast. His love of everything outdoors has left those close to him with fond memories of the times spent with him camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, flying, horseback riding, participating in shoots, annual trips to the States with the “boys” for gun shows, photography, sitting on a sunny beach, snowshoeing, and much more – including a disastrous attempt at snow skiing.
Mel’s work life, too, was varied. He worked as a hunting guide in the Yukon and later in southwestern Alberta, as a ranch hand at the McIntyre Ranch, a service technician at Oliver Irrigation and Hi-Way Irrigation, owned and operated Plainsland Irrigation, and was employed as a plot person at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada until the time of his passing.
He was predeceased by his father, James Donald Armour; his mother, Anne Marie Agnes Black; his stepfather, George Albert Black; and his half-brother, Roy Jensen. Mel leaves to mourn his godson, Ben (Jessie) McKenna, and numerous individuals who were proud to call him “friend.” Mel was a loved and treasured friend who epitomized kindness, caring, loyalty, respect, and good “old fashioned” values and beliefs.
A Celebration of Mel’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 18, 2017, at MARTIN BROTHERS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lethbridge Fish and Game Association, PO Box 495, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1J 3Z1 or the Southern Alberta Rifleman’s Association, 312 – 13 Street North, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1H 2R8.
