Marjory Schaaf Obituary

Mrs. Marjory Jean Schaaf of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Clarence Schaaf, passed away peacefully at Edith Cavell Care Centre on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the age of 98 years.

Marjory was born January 16, 1926, to Frank and Reta Ellis in Medicine Hat, AB. She was the fourth of nine children. She was raised in Rose Glen, Alberta (Schuler area), and met Clarence as a child growing up together. Often joking, she would say “He used to break my mud pies and then he had to eat them”.  Clarence and Marj were married on November 25, 1944, in Wetaskiwin, AB. They moved to Thornton, Vale and Scandia, AB where they raised their family. After leaving the farm in Scandia they made their home in Monarch where she lived until 2006. Clarence and Marjory had 5 children Karen, Allan (Sandie), Armen (Carol), Les (Sheila), and Teresa (Ron).

Marj was a good homemaker, loved taking on odd jobs and babysitting other children. She loved her garden and her flowers. She was an avid crocheter, knitter and spent a lot of time sewing. We have all some treasure she has made. She was involved in the Army and Navy Club and the Legion.

Marjory is survived by son Armen Schaaf (Carol); daughter Teresa Van Ryn (Ron); daughter in law Sandie Schaaf; 11 Grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren plus 1 on the way, and 6 great great grandchildren. Marjory is also survived by her brother Ron Ellis.

Besides her loving husband Clarence, Marjory was predeceased by her parents Frank and Reta, 3 brothers and 4 sisters as well as 3 children Karen, Les and Allan.

We were all incredibly lucky to have such an amazing woman in our lives for so long. She was strong, independent and outspoken.  Marjory was a mom, Gram, and Nan to many and she was loved by all.
