John Garth Seymour
April 1943 – February 2016
IMAGINE – A magical life that will go on forever in our hearts. Garth loved life and wanted to live forever. So much energy, love and exuberance having us all waiting for his next “Garthism” and laughter with his sharp wit.
Garth was predeceased by his mother (Theresia), father (John Henry) who died in WWII and never met his wonderful son, many beloved aunts and uncles (Stuntebeck, Seymour and Voellmecke). He leaves behind his loving wife, Anita, 4 aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws around the world.
He had a long career in finance, with Guarantee Trust and ending at the TDBank. From there he continued on the TD Retiree’s Executive Board. The best part was standing at the podium during meetings and luncheons where a captivated audience waited for words of laughter.
Many wonderful vacations (“I’ve never had a bad vacation”) around the world, across Canada, Shawnigan Lake with dear friends almost every summer for over 40 years. Finally, 8 years of driving to Palm Desert for two months every fall for more friends and adventures.
On August 29, 2014 Garth died. His heart and pacemaker stopped. He was revived and spent 11 weeks at VGH then the nursing home where he was to regain his strength and come home. Sadly the cancer was stronger, Garth passed away on February 11th, 2016.
Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and care staff over the past 3 years, the friends and family who never gave up on him. (Pat, Janice and Scott – you are wonderful). He passed peacefully knowing that love was all around him for this next journey.
A Memorial will be held May 18, location and time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Lung Association, bc.lung.ca. Visit www.mbfunerals.com to send a personal condolence.
