December 22, 1927 - March 11, 2016
Lauri passed away peacefully in hospital on March 11 at the age of 88. He was predeceased a year earlier by Anneli, his wife of 65 years, and is survived by his son Larry (Sherri), and grandsons Liam and Logan. His was a life well lived, with no time wasted and no regrets. Arriving in Vancouver from Finland in 1951 with Anneli, he quickly embraced his new life on the West Coast where he could enjoy hunting, fishing, boating, and cross country skiing, while honing his master carpentry skills. He loved to create, whether it was a simple wooden toy, a beautiful piece of furniture, his beloved cabin in the Cariboo, or his final home in Peachland. His tireless work ethic was equaled by his relentless pursuit of happiness in the great outdoors. Even as the years were adding up, his age rarely slowed him down but rather gave him opportunities to try something new. The Baron of Viipuri loved the special attention from staff at Brookhaven and Arbutus, and for this his family are truly grateful.
