Carolyn Thomas

Carolyn (Henault) Thomas April 11,1940 - June 11, 2018

Wrapped in her family’s arms Carolyn age 78 slipped peacefully away to meet her Lord on June 11, 2018. Predeceased by her parents Albert and Helen Henault. She will be remembered with profound love and gratitude by her husband Bill, children Kathy (Dave) Stevens, Bill (Bronwen) Thomas, Suzie (Dylan) Thomas, Elizabeth (Philippe) Thomas-Raynaud, her grandchildren, Michelle (Paul), Nicole, Allison, Georgia, Nathan, Anna, Jacqueline, Chloé and Noa. She also leaves behind her cherished Aunt Marguerite St.Cyr, her brother David Henault (Sandra), her sister in law Joan (Gord) Money, nieces and her nephew and her big beautiful New England family whom she adored.

Our Mom and Grammie loved her Lord and loved her family deeply. She was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts on April 11,1940. She graduated from Leominster High School in 1958 and from Leominster Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. She met Bill in 1963 while working at the Boston Lying-in Hospital as an obstetrical nurse. After vowing she would “never marry a doctor” they were married on August 24, 1963 and celebrated almost 55 years together. They were an example to their children and grandchildren of commitment, love and strength through good and hard times. Mom took her gift of nursing and used it long after her career ended. She cared totally and faithfully for those in her church, community and family. There wasn’t a person she wouldn’t say hi to on the street or a friend she wouldn’t feed at her table. Mom was known as a creator of beauty in all things. She was an avid gardener, creating stunning landscapes in her garden. She was a master in the kitchen and loved creating delicious meals for her family and friends to enjoy. She was also known for her organizational abilities where no large function was too overwhelming. She believed that her job was to raise her kids for God and then set them free to experience and live life as she knew they could. She always had an ear to listen, a huge hug to comfort and words to guide. She will be missed forever but we know she will be waiting in heaven.

Our family would like to extend our deepest thanks to the incredible (third floor) care team at Point Grey Private Hospital and Mom’s caregiver Beth. They were the angels who at a time when our family was in deep pain, wrapped their arms around us all and bound us together as Mom’s new family. We will be forever grateful for your loving care and kindness for our Mom.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at St. John’s Vancouver Church, 5350 Baillie St., Vancouver. A reception will follow at Shaughnessy Golf Club. In lieu of flowers we would appreciate donations in Carolyn’s memory to Paul’s Club, (click here) , a respite care and day program that Mom joined as her dementia progressed. At Paul’s Club members are normalized with peers, loved for their strengths and encouraged to embrace the life they are living each day. Paul’s Club 1310 - 1500 Hornby St., Vancouver B.C. V6Z 2R1.
