Signe Ruth Housser

Signe Ruth Housser

October 17, 1927 - September 12, 2018

Sig levelled off into nothingness with serenity and grace, as she lived her life.

She was thoughtful, generous, disciplined and competitive, but only with herself.  Sig saw life as an opportunity for self-improvement or failing that, as an excuse for a good laugh and new adventures.  She didn’t fall into the trap of seeking perfection, though she did have her standards.

Mom embraced being a Libran and so felt at home in the rustic simplicity of Yellow Point Lodge or the chaotic elegance of Mexico City.  She travelled often with cherished friends and family.  She enjoyed exploring the streets of a new city, invariably getting lost, sailing head and shoulders above the crowd, but always stopping to smell the flowers.  Mom liked to try out new languages, often with hilarious results.

Sig nurtured a gorgeous spring garden, walked everywhere and spent her life outdoors.  She skied with the gang at Mt. Baker and later with her children at Whistler.  She played ladies golf at McCleery and doubles tennis followed by a swim at Jericho, often on the same day.  Mom adored opera and never missed the Met auditions where she always rooted for the baritone.  She was beautiful inside and out, slept soundly at night and was so much fun to be around.

Sig is lovingly remembered by her children Gretchen (David), David (Therese), Signe (Shannon), grandchildren Matthew and Melissa and many nieces and nephews.

Bye bye, darling.
